Cash donations or gifts in kind make a difference in a Scout's life!
Will donating an item or cash for an item replace my annual Friends of Scouting contribution?
No. Items or cash for items go directly towards a certain project, need, event, etc. Friends of Scouting supports the Council’s operations which help provides service to units, leader training, program and maintenance at our three world class camp properties, membership and advancement records, and communication tools for all of our Scouts and volunteers. The Council appreciates all donations to our Council.
If I donate an item, do you need to know the value?
Yes, the Council would like to know the value and the condition of the item prior to donating. But, it is the donor’s responsibility to document the value of the gift. It is also the donor’s responsibility to properly classify the deduction as either a charitable deduction or a business expense (most companies will claim the latter). The IRS only expects the local Council to provide a receipt that shows the date of the gift, and describes the donated item but does not value it.
